Field trip to Yakult Vietnam Factory – Binh Duong

On April 24, 2025, students from the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CEE) – International University, Vietnam National University HCMC – had the valuable opportunity to visit Yakult Vietnam’s factory located in Binh Duong Province. The trip was guided by Dr. Doan Hoai Linh, MSc. Tran Le Dang Khoa, and joined by many enthusiastic students passionate about biotechnology, microbiology, and food production.

Yakult is a globally renowned fermented milk drink that contains the beneficial probiotic strain Lactobacillus casei Shirota, which was successfully isolated in 1930 by Japanese microbiologist Dr. Minoru Shirota. During the visit, students were able to directly observe the modern production lines and gain in-depth knowledge about the fermentation process, quality control, packaging, and even packaging material manufacturing.

In addition, students had the chance to:

  • Connect theoretical knowledge from the classroom with real-world industrial practices.
  • Interact directly with Yakult’s engineers and technical specialists.
  • Access specialized microbiology knowledge beyond the standard chemical engineering curriculum.
  • Understand Yakult’s product distribution strategy, its business model of exclusivity, and how the company ensures consistent product quality for consumers.

This factory tour was not only an enriching hands-on learning experience but also a meaningful opportunity for students to broaden their understanding, shape their career paths, and fuel their passion for food technology and applied microbiology.

The School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering sincerely thanks Yakult Vietnam Co., Ltd. for their warm hospitality and generous support in organizing this trip. The thoughtful reception and invaluable insights shared by the company have truly inspired our students on their academic and professional journeys.
