Students gain hands-on experience at Kaken MTV Vietnam – textile testing expert

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, Dr. Phung Thanh Khoa and Mr. Dang Ngoc Quan – lecturers from the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CEE), International University – Vietnam National University, HCMC (VNU-HCM) – led a group of 20 students on a practical field trip to Kaken MTV Vietnam, located in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.

Kaken MTV Vietnam is a subsidiary of Kaken – a Japanese textile testing corporation established shortly after World War II. With over 70 years of experience, Kaken has played a vital role in ensuring the quality of fabrics and garments worldwide. The Vietnam branch was officially founded in 2024, marking the company’s strategic expansion into Southeast Asia.

During the visit, students learned about the quality control and testing processes in the textile industry. They also gained valuable insight into the crucial role of fundamental chemical knowledge in operating laboratory equipment, analyzing samples, and evaluating results according to international standards.

This field trip offered an invaluable real-world learning experience, helping students bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry demands. It also served as a source of motivation for those pursuing a deeper understanding of applied chemistry, especially in the textile and quality assurance industries.

The School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at International University would like to express our sincere appreciation to Kaken MTV Vietnam for their warm hospitality and generous support in providing our students with the opportunity to learn, explore, and experience professional practices in a real industrial environment.

We are especially grateful to the Kaken experts for their dedicated knowledge-sharing on textile testing procedures and the wide-ranging applications of chemistry in textile manufacturing. This visit not only broadened students’ career perspectives but also ignited greater passion and inspiration for their future journey in chemical engineering.

We look forward to continued collaboration between Kaken and the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, working together to train and nurture high-quality human resources for the industry.
