IU STEM TOUR – Part 1

November 28th, 2022, School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, International University – Vietnam National University HCMC.

As the representative from the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Dr. Ngo Thi Thuan, various laboratory technicians (M.Sc. Hoang Gia Phuc, M.Sc. Tran Le Dang Khoa, and Mr. Dang Ngoc Quan), talented teaching assistants, and the media team had not only hosted the STEM Tour at the School’s laboratory, but also welcomed, and captured such valuable and memorable moments of more than 15 students from Bui Thi Xuan High School and Saigon International College. The STEM Tour was an opportunity for young students to learn more about the majors of the School, and get hands-on experience on college-level experiments.

As more than 60 minutes passed, Dr. Thuan had explained in detail the importance, the necessity, and the impact of two majors – Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Moreover, she also demonstrated an interesting and meaningful experiment which the students could replicate at home. The mentioned experiment was simply creating a water filtration system using various materials such as sand, gravels, and most importantly, activated carbon. Dr. Thuan also gave important and interesting insights on the Vietnam Water Quality Regulation which was one of the main reasons to filter water.

At the end of the STEM Tour, the students had learned the difference between Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, the role of Environmental Engineering and the job markets of the two mentioned majors. Moreover, the passion and curiosity about the majors of the students has been sparked by Dr. Thuan. Armored with new knowledge and experienced the warm welcome from Dr. Thuan, more than 25% of the students wished to join the community and family of School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at International University – Vietnam National University HCMC.
